Just like they have needs, so do their pets”. We use a variety of pet care items that students interact with and learn about the basic needs that all pets share.
THE BASIC NEEDS OF A PET.
We discuss and talk about the many ways our pets communicate their needs and feelings. Understanding what an animal is saying increases empathy and respect and can also keep children safe. Students will use their observational skills to interpret animal body language and vocalizations.
UNDERSTANDING DOG LANGUAGE.

Harvey’s Story
I truly will never understand how anyone can dump a dog on the side of a highway and drive away. But that’s what happen to Harvey. He was dumped on highway 75 here in Tulsa Oklahoma. He was left with a small bag of dog food. A lady watched this person drive away & leave Harvey behind. Sadly that lady had elderly parents in the car and she had to drive past Harvey leaving him also.
I want the person who dumped Harvey to know….
He waited! Two days! Never left the highway! Waiting on you to comeback and get him. It poured rain the entire night and He still waited with no shelter all night on the side of the highway. Shocking to me that nobody pulled over and rescued this beautiful dog but I now believe that GOD in some divine way wanted Harvey with us.
I kept seeing posts on FB about this dog sitting on the side of Hwy75.
I was already fostering 3 homeless dogs so I kept scrolling by these posts not wanting to read to much in order to keep my heart strings from being pulled.
However the 2nd day came around and I was still seeing pictures of this dog still sitting on the side of the highway! But now he was sitting there in cold pouring rain. I said out loud “Dear Jesus, Why do I keep seeing these posts? Are you wanting me to rescue this dog”?
I made some calls. I asked Mercy Sakes 2nd Chance Dogs Rescue and Helpless Hounds Dog Rescue if they would help with vetting a dog that I’m gonna pick up off Hwy 75 and I will foster the dog. They said Yes! I called a rescue friend to go pick Harvey up….
When Harvey arrived I was absolutely floored! He’s a beautiful, skinny, starving year old St. Bernard who came right to me and laid his head in my lap.
What does somebody think when dumping a dog on the side of a busy highway?
Surely they know the dog will die waiting for them. Or be hit by a car. Harvey sure wasn’t going anywhere. Just look at the loyalty a dog has to wait for his owner even in cold down pours of rain, on the side of a busy Hwy. Harvey had no shelter to hide under. He just sat there, cold, hungry waiting for the one person that he thought loved him. Harvey knew he wasn’t equipped to survive alone. Why do people think pets can survive alone?
Dogs and Cats were created to be companion animals. They rely on us for shelter, food and care. A dog mentally is no older than a 4 year old. I believe dogs and cats are one of Gods greatest gifts for us to enjoy here on earth. Dogs are loyal and they love without conditions. I can’t imagine not having pets in my life NOR comprehend dumping a pet to survive alone
📣 ATTENTION! 📣 TO THE PERSON WHO “DUMPED and ABANDONED” 12 month old St. Bernard on Hwy 75 leaving a small bag of dog food and then driving away….
Did you cry leaving him? Did he mean anything to you? Because you meant something to him. He waited for your return. He waited 2 full days right where you dumped him sitting with his bag of food. He waited all night in a horrible thunder storm. He sat there waiting, waiting and waiting.
I want the person who dumped Harvey to know… I rescued Him! Harvey has pushed his way straight into all of our hearts! I have fostered many many dogs over the years but NEVER Have I met a dog like Harvey! He is the most well mannered, smart, caring, loving dog. I just spent the past 2 weeks sick with Covid and this beautiful dog Never left my side. I truly believe that dogs choose us and Harvey certainly did! We have fostered Harvey for 2 1/2 months and today we are finalizing his adoption!
We want the world to meet our newest family member. Our St. Bernard “Harvey”.
Harvey’s story is the reason we started “For The Love Of Harvey Program”. In hopes of creating a future that's much kinder to animals.
